Company History

Westmorland Marquee Hire, a Cumbria Tourism member, was established by Francis Mason-Hornby to offer clients throughout the North West and in particular the Lake District the highest standards of equipment and service at competitive prices. The continuing aim is to offer clients the benefit of over 25 years experience at the forefront of event planning and party design.

Since 1985 Francis has been personally involved in the marquee hire business, initially as a student working as a casual labourer during the summer holidays for T-T Tents near Basingstoke, Hampshire then he was promoted to a permanent Hire Manager position within the firm.

In 1989 Francis left T-T Tents and founded Marquees over London with John Glaisher which over 11 years they built up to be the capital's leading marquee hirer with a varied and highly prestigious client base.

In August 2000 Francis and John sold Marquees over London to the Edinburgh based Field & Lawn Marquees.

Francis then spent 18 months running the Field & Lawn Marquees London operation whilst at the same time ensuring the smooth handover of equipment, personnel and clients.

On moving back home to the north of England Francis established Westmorland Marquee Hire with efficiency, competitive pricing and clean, modern equipment as its guiding principles.

Francis and his wife Charlotte who runs simplyaupairs.com have also developed the award winning Dalton Hall Business Centre which has been created out of redundant farm buildings on the Estate
